A Little Bit of
Gas Station Humor...
There was a crowd of bees flying around one day. These bees
were most peculiar. They were powered by gasoline, rather than the allergenic goodies that
bees usually eat. As the crowd flew along, periodically a bee or two would start to
sputter; it would fly down to a gas station, drink up the gas spilled in fueling a car,
and then fly up and rejoin the crowd.
One bee began to sputter a little, but flew right by an open gas station. As he passed the
second station, he coughing badly, but still he flew on. Finally, as he was on his last
fumes, he dove down to a station and gassed up.
When he rejoined the crowd, his neighbor challenged him:
"Look, you passed right by an open station when you started to get low. You
passed another station when you were perilously low. And finally, you ran out of gas just
in time to glide into that last station. Are you crazy?"
He replied, "Well, it's like this. The first station was a Gulf station. I really
don't like Gulf at all. The second station was a Texaco station. That's even worse. But
the third station was an Esso station. Let me tell you, Esso is my brand of gasoline. You
know what they say don't you? ...
There's an Esso Bee in every crowd!"

A Chicora area woman has given up her commission as a Notary Public, ending
her work in attaching her name and official seal to legal papers and documents in work she started in 1941.
Jeannette I. Bouch graduated from Worthington-West Franklin High School in
1940, and from Kittanning Business College in 1941. She started work in the
office of Roy A. House, A Justice of the the Peace and Inheritance Tax Appraiser in Kittanning in 1941. On August 5, 1944, she married Leroy Andre,
and after moving to Chicora, she was employed at the Butler Graham Airfield
office of Aerial Surveys of Pittsburgh and Cessna Airplane Sales, owned by
Russell P. Hay. There she handled all office duties and legal transactions,
airplane titles and similar work.
In 1954, when her husband was elected Justice of the Peace in Donegal
Township, Jeannette received a Notary Public Commission so that she could
notarize papers and transfer automobile and truck titles when her husband was
not available. She continued to hold her notary commission during his 18
years in office and up to early this month when she decided not to renew her
commission, 62 years after she first became associated with legal work requiring a state seal.
Mrs. Andre is a member of St. John's Reformed Church, and has been active in
Cub Scout activities, the American Legion and Chicora Firemen' Auxiliaries,
Rebekah Lodge, Butler County Home Extension, and hobby and craft clubs in
Butler and Chicora. She had also served as a correspondent for the Butler
Eagle.
The mother of Larilyn Andre, employed in Washington, D.C., as Information
Officer and Interpreter and Press Officer for the Swedish Embassy, and Thomas, employed by the Army Corps of Engineers in
Pittsburgh, and as Advisor to the Joint Chiefs of Staff. She has one granddaughter and five grandsons. |
